Research matters

Today was a very practical day of this researcher. First in the morning, we visited the local census office, and got some latest census data 2010 for West Sumatra. This help to sort out where the people live, and how to form a sample for this media study.

Next, it was time to visit the University students whose institution has shown interest in co-operation. First we (local research manager, interpreter and me) met with the lecturer, and explained the task. After that, the students marked on a map where they are from in West Sumatra. The idea is that they will go and interview in the area they are from. This provides them a comfortable zone to function in the environment they are familiar with. The students were excited about learning survey research.

The sweetest time of the day to sit for a moment at the seaside sipping coconut. Local food is displayed on a local warung - eating place. Remember, here we eat with our fingers.
